MECKLENBURG-VORPOMMERN

The German federal state Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is directly located at the Baltic Sea. Traditional branches like tourism, the health sector and agriculture play an important role. The maritime and biotech industry are key employers along the value added chain. In the context of climate change and technical developments, major companies and research institutions realized the great potential of satellite based technologies.

The objective of regional networks of companies, universities and research institutions is the provision of real time applications in the sectors Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS). We offer solutions and services for maritime systems, maritime safety and security, environmental and emergency applications.

To improve the processes of maritime navigation and logistics the only two National Maritime Ground Based Augmentation Systems (GBAS) SEA GATE1 and Alegro2 are installed in the Research Port of Rostock. They offer high precise and reliable positioning and navigation in confined waters under difficult weather conditions in realtime. The Network for Maritime Applications operates both test beds and develops maritime products and services based on satellite navigation to enhance the harbor processes. Rostock offers a 360 degree ship handling simulator for training and education purposes. Further information is available under www.netmaritime.de

The GMES-MV Network focuses on development, implementation and operation of satellite-based services and has with the German Aerospace Center (DLR e.V.) facility a node in the ESA-Earthnet for acquisition, processing and archiving. The Realtime Space Application Center provides products based on more than 10 Earth Observation satellites and small explorer missions (e.g. IRS, TerraSAR-X). Flanking to this, the test site DEMMIN is directed to calibration and validation of remote sensing products and sensors. More information on GMES is available under www.gmes-mv.de
