9 April 2024, 11.00-12.30 (Brussels time): Education and training in the space sector XI: How the European Space Education responds to the commercialisation of space?

In recent years, the commercialization of space has emerged, with private companies driving innovation and exploration in the upstream as well as the downstream space sector. This paradigm shift brings about new challenges and opportunities for space education in Europe. This 11th information session aims to explore the readiness of European space education to embrace the commercialization of space. We will delve into key questions, such as Curriculum Adaptation; Industry Collaboration; Skill Development; Ethical Considerations.




The education/training webinars have the objective of bringing together the university community and partners of the network interested in education/training, capacity-building, and skills development, creating new opportunities for partnerships and setting the frame for new ways of cooperation within and outside NEREUS.

Jill Stuart

Dr Jill Stuart is an academic based at the London School of Economics and Political Science. She is an expert in the politics, ethics and law of outer space exploration and exploitation. She is an award winning lecturer and teacher, and a frequent presence in the global media (print, radio, television, documentary).


Noemi Zabari

Dr. Noemi Zabari, an astrophysicist, entrepreneur, and leader, bridging the gap between the scientific and business communities. She was recognized as Strong Woman in IT in 2023. She completed her Ph.D. in Astrophysics at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Krakow. Previously, she pursued simultaneous studies in Applied Mathematics at the University of Science and Technology and Technical Physics at the Cracow University of Technology. During her academic pursuits, she worked at a company developing a nanosatellite constellation for a telecommunications network. Inspired by her scientific explorations and her involvement in a company focused on the impact of space weather on satellite electronic subsystems, she founded and currently is the CEO of Astroteq.ai, a company dedicated to researching cosmic radiation in relation to seismic activity. She is also a co-Lead of cosmo-seismic research group in CREDO project (credo.science) and member of Polish Space Technology Cluster. She is a technology enthusiast, driven by innovation and its potential to enhance our lives—a fan of a dynamic and positive approach to life.


Target group: Universities/research centres that are NEREUS-Associate members, universities based in NEREUS-member regions, other Universities interested in education/training, cooperation partners, NEREUS-regions that hosted the EO4GEO workshops in the past, and all NEREUS-members interested in the education/training regarding the use of space technologies;




The role of the education/training sector is crucial for the development of the regional economy and growth. New skills and interdisciplinary knowledge are needed given the numerous challenges such as unemployment, digitalisation, and green transition. The growing role of the space sector can provide solutions to a wide range of regional domains including agriculture, maritime activities, urban planning, air quality, climate adaptation, and sustainable development.

This info session will introduce key education players in the area of space and explore potential partnerships within but also outside the Network. In addition, it will present new education/training trends on the uptake and integration of space/geospatial data and services.

Education/training is also considered a key topic for regional strategies and future needs in space products, as experts are needed for the public and private sector at local and regional level. NEREUS is a European network of regions, currently composed of 24 Member regions and 33 Associate members (including universities) and its role is also to update members and participate in the development of an appropriate educational framework that will support regional growth and development.
