Follow-up: EU Space Package – Info Session IV: EU Space Act and Vision for a European Space Economy, 11 May 2026


NEREUS organised Session IV: Info Session on the Proposed EU Space Package (EU Space Act and Vision for a European Space Economy), as part of its series of online events on the proposed EU Space Package, on Monday 11 May 2026, from 16:30 to 18:30h. The session brought together participants from European institutions, Member States, industry, academia, and regional stakeholders.

 

The webinar provided an up-to-date overview of the ongoing negotiations on the EU Space Package, focusing on the political priorities of co-legislators, key areas of discussion, and the implications of the future EU Space Act for the European space economy.

 

Key institutional and stakeholder contributions included:

  • Giorgio Gori (Member of the European Parliament, ITRE Committee Vice-President), who presented the European Parliament’s perspective as shadow rapporteur on the EU Space Package, outlining political priorities and providing insights into the state of negotiations within the ITRE Committee.
  • Salvatore Pignataro (Space Attaché, Permanent Representation of Italy to the EU), who shared the Council and Member State perspective on the ongoing discussions.
  • Stefano Mele (Gianni & Origoni Law Firm), who provided a legal and regulatory analysis of the proposed EU Space Act, with particular attention to cybersecurity, data governance, and space economy implications.
  • Prof. Giacomo Cao (President, Aerospace District of Sardinia) and Ing. Gennaro Russo (Aerospace District of Campania), who highlighted regional industry perspectives and the role of aerospace ecosystems in supporting EU competitiveness.
  • Prof. Nicole Viola (Politecnico di Torino), who contributed an academic viewpoint on aerospace systems and innovation dynamics.
  • Guillaume de Dinechin (ASTRIA Space Risk and Insurance Advisors), who addressed risk management and insurance considerations in the evolving space economy.

The session concluded with an interactive exchange with participants, focusing on policy priorities, key areas of debate in the legislative process, and the expected impact of the EU Space Act across stakeholders in the space value chain and public authorities.
