NEREUS contributes to Sciences Po and ESA workshop on multistakeholder space governance

On 2 September 2026, NEREUS was pleased to contribute to the high-level workshop “Advancing Multistakeholder Governance in the Space Sector: Emerging Dynamics and the Case of Space Traffic Management” held in Paris and jointly organised by the Sciences Po Technology and Global Affairs Innovation Hub and the European Space Agency (ESA). Read the joint summary and recommendations.

Speaking at the workshop, NEREUS President Thierry Cotelle (Occitanie Region) highlighted the essential role that regions play in Europe’s evolving space governance landscape. Regions, he noted, act simultaneously as users of space-based services, as hosts to companies and infrastructure, and as drivers of innovation, skills and regional ecosystems.

Mr Cotelle also underlined the importance of a more inclusive and coherent governance model, one capable of bringing together European and national institutions, regions and cities, industry and SMEs, academia, investors and end users.

NEREUS was also represented at the workshop by Secretary General Roya Ayazi. The discussion addressed how Europe can build a more competitive, secure, sustainable and inclusive space ecosystem, with space traffic management serving as a concrete case through which to examine wider governance questions.

NEREUS extends its thanks to Professor Kai-Uwe Schrogl for making the workshop possible and for his contribution to a successful and insightful event.
