Nowadays, space-related technologies have never been so present in our daily lives. However, more than 50 years after the European space programme has been set, Valentina Terechkova is still the only woman to have performed a solo journey in space. Women are in general grossly under-represented in STEM fields: “While a few (mainly ex-Soviet) countries have around 20% women in STEM, Western European countries such as France and Spain (17% each), Denmark (16%), Germany (15%), Finland (15%), and UK (9%) all bring the European average down to 17%” (WISE Report, 2012).
The SPACE GIRLS SPACE WOMEN exhibition by SIPA PRESS aims at showcasing the broad range of opportunities in the space sector with portraits by female reporters of women with their heads in the stars, passionate about space, and contributing to the space adventure with their daily work.
NEREUS is committed to promoting space awareness towards broad audiences: sponsoring the exhibition, together with the European Space Agency and other partners, is in line with its mission. NEREUS members benefit from advantageous conditions to host the exhibition at local level.
