Across Europe, regions are playing an increasingly important role in shaping the future of the space sector. Through the development of regional space ecosystems and strategies, local authorities, industry, research institutions, and innovation actors are working together to maximise the uptake of space-based solutions and strengthen regional competitiveness. Regional space ecosystems typically bring together: Public authorities and regional governments; SMEs and industry actors in the space and downstream sectors; Research centres and universities; Innovation hubs and clusters. These ecosystems support the development and use of space technologies—such as Earth Observation, satellite navigation, and telecommunications—across key domains including climate monitoring, mobility, agriculture, and urban planning. In parallel, regional space strategies provide a structured framework to: Define priorities and investment areas; Foster innovation and entrepreneurship; Enhance skills and capacity-building; Strengthen links with European programmes and initiatives. The Network of European Regions Using Space Technologies actively supports its members in developing and implementing such ecosystems and strategies. Through knowledge exchange, policy dialogue, and collaboration, NEREUS contributes to strengthening the role of regions in the European space landscape.
